Training Collars
We are electronic collar trainers. There are a couple of very strong beliefs we have regarding electronic training collars. First, they are not “shock collars.” When first developed, these collars were primarily used as tools for discipline and were typically on (hot) or off. This is where the perception of “shock collar” came from and it was well justified. Today, with variable intensities, the quality and ability of the training collar allow an infinite number of uses for the collar using low-level stimulation.

Our second, equally important comment, is that we believe there is no better training tool than the electric training collar in the right hands. An electronic training collar is no different than a lead, flushing whip, whistle or any other training aid. Remember, it is a tool. However, we believe it is the best tool because it takes our hands off of the dog. The dog is better at (and happier) solving its own problems than it is doing things for us. By allowing it to solve its own problems with the use of an electronic training collar, we develop more style in the dog. Think about it: we have all seen dogs cower when the owner/trainer physically corrects the dog. In some cases, they cower when being approached. A properly used electronic training collar can eliminate this and, when properly used, it is very difficult (if not impossible) to tell that the dog was trained with an electronic training collar.

We completely disagree with anyone who says that going out to correct a dog that is 30 to 50 yards away is better than a properly used electronic training collar. All dogs learn by association. Any association of a physical correction is lost long before you can reach the dog in ten or more seconds. Worse, an association is made. (Make no mistake about it; the dog will make some association.) Most likely, that association will be that when the dog sees you coming, it will flee or cower. Neither of these results is what any trainer wants. The electronic training collar allows the correction to be immediate. This creates a better chance that the association made will be with what the dog just did, not what it was doing ten or more seconds later when you got to it or it saw you coming.

There are many electronic training collars and many offer similar features. We are a Pro Staff member and electronics distributor for DT Systems, Inc. These are very versatile training collars with features that are the most useful for the way we train and for the proper use of an electronic training collar. Additionally, we have been instrumental in the development of DT Systems Inc.’s new line of electronic training collars. We’ve been consistently very impressed with the way the company looks for, receives, listens and incorporates the ideas and suggestions of multiple dog trainers in developing these collars. These electronic collars were created for dog trainers by dog trainers. The benefit to dog owners is that DT Systems, Inc. has created a training collar that is reliable, easy to use and supported by professional dog trainers.
